Atheism is the lack of belief is a God or gods.  When specific religious teaching and dogma fail to meet their burden of proof, it is justifiable to withhold belief in those claims.  This is what atheism is.  Many atheists may go further and claim no God or gods can exist based on the incredible nature of the claims required.
